Oxnard College Students to Receive Inaugural Rick Najera Performing Arts and Entertainment Scholarship Today at its 40th Annual Scholarship Ceremony April 27
OXNARD, CA – April 27, 2016 – Today Oxnard College will present its 40th annual scholarship ceremony sponsored by Oxnard College Foundation. Dozens of students will receive specialized funding for college including three students who will receive the inaugural Rick Najera Performing Arts and Entertainment Scholarship.
“Education is close to my heart and we all need to give, large or small,” said Rick Najera. “Education is the best gift we can give.”
Oscar Moreno, Alejandra Martinez and Mario Robles will each receive a $500 scholarship. Qualifications to receive the scholarship were based on specific criteria such as current GPA, desired degree, level of campus volunteer activity and more. Funds awarded to these students were raised partly from donations at the Latino Thought Makers events that took place August 2015 through April 2016 in Oxnard College’s Performing Arts Center.
Rick Najera, a comedian, Broadway playwright, award-winning screenwriter, director, author and performer, doubles as Oxnard College’s Institute for Latino Performing Arts creative director and host of its successful Latino Thought Makers series.
Today’s activities include a 3:00pm reception in Oxnard College’s Condor Cafe followed by the award ceremony and ASG officer installation in the Oxnard College Performing Arts Center auditorium. Free guest parking is available in the H lot from 2:00pm until 6:00pm.
